HELLADS


The goal of the HELLADS program is to develop a 150 kilowatt (kW) laser weapon system that is ten times smaller and lighter than current lasers of similar power, enabling integration onto tactical aircraft to defend against and defeat ground threats. With a weight goal of less than five kilograms per kilowatt, and volume of three cubic meters for the laser system, HELLADS seeks to enable high-energy lasers to be integrated onto tactical aircraft, significantly increasing engagement ranges compared to ground-based systems.

The program has completed laboratory testing of a fundamental building block for HELLADS, a single laser module that successfully demonstrated the ability to achieve high power and beam quality from a significantly lighter and smaller laser. The program is now in the final development phase where a second laser module will be built and combined with the first module to generate 150 kW of power.

Following the final development phase, the plan is for the laser to be transported to White Sands Missile Range for ground testing against rockets, mortars, surface-to-air missiles and to conduct simulated air-to-ground offensive missions.

GRANAT XM-25

The techno mania would be happy to have the gun on this one. This is the XM-25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System, aka XM-25 Airburst weapons, otherwise known as smart gun or grenade launcher, designed by Heckler and Koch, is the U.S. Army hoped would change the "situation" in Afghanistan.

The following comments Program Manager for the XM-25, Lieutenant Colonel Chris lehner regarding the ability of this weapon: "You are behind something when someone is shooting at you, and such protection has been protecting people for thousands of years. Now we win protection from enemies forever. "

GearDiary reported additional features binoculars 2X and 4X heat-seeking that would allow soldiers to track heat. The question is, what will happen if the weapon is more affordable so that it can be used by both sides? It seems  the war will not end anytime soon.

Aurora Excalibur

Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation (Aurora) announced today that it has successfully completed the first flight of the Excalibur Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) turbine hybrid electric unmanned air vehicle is the first of a new class of tactical unmanned combat air vehicles. The first flight took place at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland on June 24, 2009.

"It was a flawless first flight with a crisp takeoff and perfect landing. In flight, the hover stability and heading control performance were excellent," affirmed Aurora President, John Langford.
Excalibur's unique configuration enables both VTOL and high-speed flight modes at speeds up to 400 knots; thereby providing the Warfighter with a survivable capability for quick response weapons delivery or logistics resupply from remote, austere forward operating bases or from air cable ships operating in the littorals.
The Excalibur proof-of-concept vehicle combines jet-borne vertical lift with three electric lift fans to provide attitude control and a significant fraction of hover thrust. The fully Autonomuous vehilcle management and flight control systems simplify the operator task allowing operators to focus on mission objectives. Aurora anticipates a series of flying qualities and performance testing to verify low speed operations, transition modes, and high speed flight regimes in the near future.
Mission planning and operator command and control was achieved using Aurora's portable Ground Control Station (GCS) architecture that features STANAG 4586 compliance and ensures down stream interoperability with the Army’s One System compatible GCS. The Excalibur UAS was developed by Aurora for the US Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate and the Office of Naval Research.
Aurora Flight Sciences designs and builds robotic aircraft and other advanced aerospace vehicles for scientific and military applications. Aurora is headquartered in Manassas, VA and operates production plants in Bridgeport, WV and Columbus, MS and a Research and Development Center in Cambridge, MA.

Ancaman Asteroid Apophis terhadap Bumi

By:Krisna SBA.                                                                                                                                                                                            Peluang Asteroid Apophis menabrak Bumi tahun 2036 masih sangat besar walapun pihak NASA menyatakan peluang asteroid raksasa tersebut sangatlah kecil hanya 1:250.000. Kalau perbandingannya 1 berbanding 100 miliar mungkin kita bisa bersikap tenang ya. Berarti kalau ramalan mama Laurent kiamat 2012 gak jadi,kemungkinan akan mundur ke tahun 2036.
Sebagaimana dilansir Kompas, penghuni Bumi bisa sedikit tenang. Setidaknya untuk sementara. Badan Penerbangan dan Antariksa Amerika Serikat (NASA) menyatakan, asteroid sebesar 269.748 meter kemungkinan kecil akan menabrak Bumi pada tanggal 13 April 2036.

Dari perhitungan NASA, semula peluang asteroid Apophis menabrak Bumi 1:45.000. Kalkulasi NASA pada tahun 2004 ini sempat menimbulkan kepanikan. Namun, setelah para peneliti menghitung dan menganalisis kembali garis edar asteroid kini peluangnya menjadi 1:250.000.

Ahli astronomi di Near Earth Object Program NASA, Steve Chesley, menyatakan, perhitungan yang baru bisa dilakukan setelah posisi Apophis diketahui secara persis. Pada tahun 2029 Apophis diperkirakan akan berada 29.451 kilometer di atas permukaan Bumi.
